In addition to my full-time employment I am also very involved in a couple different non-profit organizations. In one organization I am part of we had a little competition going and had a public scoreboard of each persons accomplishments. It was my responsibility to keep the scoreboard updated.

One female, who I won’t name, called me up and said something to the effect, “Since I am a girl, do you think we should alter the scoreboard to make it fair?” I was in shock and could not believe someone thought so little of their ability because she was a woman. I responded, “You’re right, lets give [insert male name here] a few extra points to level the playing field.”

Now, that is not the answer she was looking for. But I think I sent her a message.

I don’t know where in the world she got it in her head that because she was a female, she needs a handicap score to make the playing field even. Maybe it’s just me or the generation  I belong to, but the days of gender inequality should be over. That starts with men publicly recognizing that women are valuable to every organization, and for many women, like my associate, to start believing it.

Many people, men and women, have a distorted reality of their capabilities, value, and contributions. Most times this distorted reality works against the person. Unfortunately, hundreds of years of  gender discrimination has turned these distorted realities into actual realities because some women have actually come to believe they are not as valuable.

I am here to say to those women, if you believe that being a woman puts you at a disadvantage against males in the workplace, or any place for that matter – you are wrong. You were created by the same God that created man.  God is not a respecter of persons. We are all his children, and as his children possess the attributes and traits that make us all equally capable of achieving the success we desire.

If you want to be an executive, go for it.

If you want to be author, don’t delay one more moment.

If you want to be a stay-at-home, be the best mom in the world.

If you want to be a political leader, shoot for the White House.

Whatever it is that you want to be, be it. Erase centuries of gender discrimination that say women are not as capable as men, and remember, you have divine qualities from God that, as his child,  makes nothing impossible.
